Receiving Updates and Installing Applications

Withthedefaultconfiguration,updatesandsoftwarepackagesthatamobiledevice

downloadsfromtheAvalancheConsoleareautomaticallyinstalledwithouttheconsentofthe

useratthemobiledevice.Youwillonlyseetheinstallationoccurringifyouareworkinginthe

Enabler.Whenanapplication-typesoftwarepackageisdownloadedtothemobiledevice,a

shortcuticonfortheapplicationappearsintheProgramsviewoftheEnabler.Double-clickor

otherwiseselecttheapplicationintheProgramsviewtolaunchtheapplication.

NOTE:Dependingontheconfigurationofasoftwarepackage,shortcutstotheapplication

maybecreatedinotherlocationsandappearinothermenusonthemobiledevice.

CertainEnablersettings,however,allowausertopostponeorrejecttheinstallationofan

update.Theusercanalsoinitiateanupdatefromthedevice.Thisiscalledadevice-side

update.

• PostponingPackageInstallation

• InitiatingaDevice-SideUpdate

Postponing Package Installation

IfyouhaveconfiguredtheEnablertoprompttheuserbeforeinstallingpackages,thenusersat

themobiledevicewillhavetheoptiontodelayorpostponetheinstallationofapackageafterit

hasbeendownloadedfromtheAvalancheConsole.Formoreinformationaboutconfiguring

theEnablertoprompttheuserbeforeinstallation,refertoUserInteractionTabonpage47.

To postpone the installation of a package:

1 DownloadanupdatefromtheAvalancheConsole.

Whenapackagedownloadiscomplete,theInstall Availabledialogboxappears.

2 TapLater.

TheInstall Reminderdialogboxappears.

3 UsetheInstall ReminderdialogboxtoconfigurethetimeintervaluntiltheAvalanche

Enablerremindsyouthatthepackageisreadytoinstall.

4 TapOK.

Aftertheconfiguredtimehaselapsed,theInstall Availabledialogboxappearsagain.
