Updating Mobile Devices

AnupdateisthemethodAvalancheusestosendsoftwarepackagestothemobiledevices,

deleteorphanpackages,andchangenetworkprofilesettings.

YoucaninitiateamobiledeviceupdatefromthemobiledeviceorfromtheAvalanche

Console.Forinstructionsonhowtorequestanupdatefromthemobiledevice,seeInitiatinga

Device-SideUpdateonpage16.FromtheConsole,youcanupdateasingledevice,agroupof

devices,oryoucanscheduleanupdatetooccurataspecifictime.

Single Device Updates

YoucanupdateasingledevicefromtheAvalancheConsole,aslongasthedevicemeetsthe

selectioncriteriafortheupdate.Therulesthatgovernwhichmobiledevicescanreceivea

particularupdatearedeterminedbytheselectioncriteria.Formoreinformationabout

buildingselectioncriteria,refertotheAvalancheuserguide.

To update a mobile device:

1 IntheAvalancheConsole,selecttheInventorytab.

2 Enablethecheckboxtotheleftofthedeviceordevicesthatyouwanttoupdate.

3 ClickUpdate.

TheUpdate Nowdialogboxappears.

• EnabletheAllow user to override the updateoptionifyouwanttogivethemobile

deviceusertheoptiontodecidewhentheinstallationtakesplace.Ifthisoptionis

enabled,theusercanselecttoinstalltheupdateimmediatelyordelaytheinstallation

byminutes,hoursordays.

• EnabletheForce package synchronizationoptionifyouwantthemobiledeviceserver

toverifytheexistenceandstateofeachfileofeachpackageindividuallyratherthan

consultingthemeta-file,whichwouldnormallyprovideinformationonthosefiles.

• EnabletheDelete orphan packagesoptionifyouwanttoremoveorphanpackages

fromthemobiledevice.
